New EU Directives and Indian Electronics Component Supplier Industry – Implications, Preparedness, and Strategies
30th August’ 2005, New Delhi, India

Venue: Casuarina Hall, India Habitat Center, Lodi Road, New Delhi

Announcement

Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Network for Preventive Environmental Management Public Trust (NetPEM Public Trust) along with International Council for Swedish Industries (NIR) are delighted to announce a workshop titled “New EU Directives and Indian Electronics Component Supplier Industry – Implications, Preparedness, and Strategies” at New Delhi, India on 30th August’ 2005.

Why This Workshop?
This workshop is part of a project where in International Council of Swedish Industries along with CII and NetPEM are trying to assess the implications of these directives on Indian Supplier and to ascertain the level of preparedness of these suppliers.

In June 2000, the European Commission published proposals for Directives on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and on the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS). The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive came into force on 13th February 2003.)

If the Indian electrical and electronics equipment manufacturers are to become a manufacturing hub for the world EEE market then they have to comply with the regulations posed by the EU. Non-compliance will limit the possibility of Indian electronics component exporter’s to export to EU countries, resulting in loss of significant market size.

Who is the target?
We invite all electronics and electrical component & equipments manufacturers, suppliers and exporters. The workshop is also interesting for other stakeholders such as related research institutions, Govt. bodies, trade promotion councils, NGOs etc.

What is the workshop aiming for?

The overall aim of the workshop is to maintain and enhance the EU-India trade by facilitating the bridging of gaps in technology and know-how required to comply with the requirements of the New EU Directives such as WEEE and RoHS
  • To access the implication of the EU Directive on Indian suppliers.
  • To ascertain the level of preparedness of Indian suppliers
  • Development of capacity building events
  • Designing of self help tools for non-EU suppliers
